Gloomy and windy and turbulent too! Another swathe of the green part of Northamptonshire disappears next to the M1 at Junction 15A. How many warehouses can we stand before the M1 is just a car park?

| Thursday 1st March Central Milton Keynes.
A windy (24 knots) and gusty (32 knots) but occasionally bright day! Fantastic results obtained again from the new Canon EF IS 24-105 mm lens on the Canon EOS 1DS body. We really needed the image stabilization today and as can be seen from this cropped image of CMK it is quite sharp even though the aircraft was being seriously buffeted in the gusty conditions and cloud shadow would occasionally obliterate the target. |

| Thursday 15th February New MK Dons stadium.
Very windy day 45 knots at 2000 feet. Unfortunately with the sun and the wind both from the south the advantage of flying into wind to slow things down was lost by the disadvantage of flying into sun. A closer shot is of the stadium is available here. |

| Tuesday 13th February - Another blue sky! but only until we got airborne and
then it turned very grey, cold and damp. This new building site,
south of Broughton is developing rapidly and drains and roads are partly installed.
Using the new IS lens again we got a good result given the weather! Later on, a bacon sandwich at Leicester Aero Club was eaten in their warm conservatory under a blue(ish) sky and was a welcome break. |

| Friday 2nd February - Clear skies for a few hours around
lunchtime.
Attractive hamlet not far from the airfield, shot taken while repositioning in the vicinity of a commissioned shoot of nearby farm property. Sun in the south west and taken with a Canon 70-200mm f2.8 image stabilised EF lens from 1200 feet agl. Camera settings, 1/1000 at f3.2 aperture, 100mm ISO 250, IS mode 1.

Aircraft for use in aerial photography are usually of the high wing variety like the C150 G-BCCC and tend to be chosen from the Cessna range. The larger C172 and C182 have various advantages in their size and stability. The C182 without the wing strut and with retractable wheels is ideal but expensive. For general work the C150 is quite suitable. The photographer tends to sit in the left hand seat that is normally the captain's seat while the pilot flies from the right. It is important that pilots have commercial skills with particular attention paid to experience required in oblique photography, especially when shooting ground features from low level with a wide angle lens. This picture was taken as co-owner Mark Taylor had just taken off from Cranfield Airport, even though it looks like it could be an air to air shot in formation. Camera used was a Canon D60 with the 70-200mm Lens. |

| Another shot on a grey hazy and damp day!
Woburn Town from the east showing the Parish Church and the grass approach to Woburn House/Abbey. The aircraft was a Cessna 150 G-BOUJ from Billins Air Services at Cranfield. Our own aircraft was not available at the time of the flight. The symmetry of the shot is what makes it interesting, not the lighting or even the weather. Under the wingtip is the Maryland College site that was a propaganda production centre in WWII and this site is now due to be developed. |

| Friday, 26th January. A wet and grey day. Flight used
to test new Canon EF series 24-105mm F4 lens with image stabiliser.
The ground work has started now at the site shown where the Cranfield Road joins from Salford in centre. To the left is M1 Junction 14 and to the right is Tesco at the A421 and M1 link road from Junction 13. Lens works well. Small range of movement for short focal lengths compared to 24-70mm but easily usable in flight. Looking forward to brighter day to test more fully. So far I am pleased with results. Picture 1/500th at f7.1 and 24mm ISO 250 levels adjusted in Photoshop and cropped about 50%. |

Saturday 20th January - This picture was taken using a Canon EOS 1 Ds with a Canon 17-35mm Wide angle zoom lens set at 34mm at 13:00 hours. The wind was nearly 50 mph from the west! Pilot at the time was Terry Powell (Associate) who is a local professional press photographer and keen pilot.. The foundations of a new distribution depot can be seen in the centre. January has been a quiet month for flying and aerial photo flights in particular due mainly to wind but also to poor visibility and low cloud. This picture of Milton Keynes, replicated on the News page shows the start of 2 new building projects on the eastern edge of Milton Keynes north of M1 Junction 13. Not far to go now to the Bedfordshire boundary! Watch out Cranfield! |
